i dropped my ipad on carpet. the ipad fell out from the hard case. i tried to turn it on to check if it's okay. but all i can see is the screen turning lighter. still black but there's light (lighter black). can someone tell me how to fix it?

Try starting by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it starts, if the red slider appears ignore it.  If that doesnt't work, plug it in with the charger to an outlet and see if it charges.  If none of that works take it to an Apple store genius bar to have the techs take a look.

Holding both the power and home buttons does a soft reset, some call it a reboot like with a computer, nothing is lost.

The reboot proceedure: sometimes you have to hold both buttons for at least 10-15 seconds for the process to start.

If you plug it in to an outlet you should get the battery image indicating charging.

If none of those work you should visit a genius bar so the techs can check it out.

Apple seldom repairs, does replacement...do you have AppleCare+ on the iPad?  If so there is an out-of-warranty replacement available for a significantly reduced price.  If not you have to see what the Apple store will offer in the way of cost of replacement.

Replacements are usually handled as either new or refurbished items.  The refurbished cannot be told from new since Apple replaces the batteries, new case, impossible to tell from brand new.  And come with a new item warranty.  But visit the Apple store and see what they say and offer you.

Maybe they can get it working again with little effort, just have to see what the techs say.
