Imovie wont let me import photos

Imovie '11 is no longer allowing me to click and drag my photos into my movies to make timelapses. If I only have one photo selected then It just bounces it back to where I am dragging it from, weather it is iphoto or just regualr jpegs. If I have many photos selected imovie will bounce them back as well but then come up with a status bar that never makes progress saying "importing xnumber of stills" and I have to force quit to use imovie again. Why is this happeneing. I deleted the caches and the prefernece files but still no luck.
