Can't update apps in itunes err 8008

I have uninstalled iTunes several times and deleted the file in My Music, no matter what I do it will not update apps or magazines. It trys to download them and stops at the end and says that it appears the file is corrupted and I get the errr 8008 error code. I can download on iPhone, iPad and other computers. This is my main home computer I am having the issues on, the only computer I really work with iTunes on. I have been using it for over two years with no problems until now.

I did back up my files in My Music before I deleted them.

Really need help, have worked on this for two weeks with no success.

Thanks,

Thajeweler

PS Insteresting you don't even show my new devices as registered in your pull down list below and I selected to register them when I set them up.

Hello ThaJeweler,

The 8008 error is when iTunes attempts to download what appears to be a corrupted file. Many people have solved this problem by following the steps below. Of course it may not work for you but this is the first thing I would recommend trying.

  1. Find your iTunes folder on your computer.
  2. In your iTunes folder is a folder named "Downloads".
  3. In this folder, iTunes stores temporary files of your downloads in progress.
  4. Double click this folder and you should see the names of the files/programs that keep coming up error -8008. They will be folders with a .tmp extension.
  5. Go ahead and delete those defective files.
  6. Then, that's when you to your iTunes account and "Check for Purchases".
  7. Re-download, this time it should be done properly.

The path on PC for the iTunes Store is usually found here:

C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\

Thankyou for the insturctions, but I have deleted all the files and reinstalled iTunes many times and it keeps doing exactly the same thing.

I can download on my iPhone and iPad and transfer the purchases but that is not how it has worked before and quite a bit of extra steps...

Just for the heck of it, I carefully followed your instructions and it just creates the .tmp folders back and will not download the magazines nor will it update any apps...

Ok I am going to detail the steps in a little more detailed fashion because this solution fixes the problem 99% of the time and is the method Apple Support reccomends. If after following the detailed steps below the problem still persists please come back here and let us know and we can try giving you other steps to help futher troubleshoot the issue.

  1. Locate the Downloads Folder (found here on Windows 7: \Users\username\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Downloads\) *DONT DELETE ANYTHING HERE YET*
  2. Quit iTunes
  3. Delete the entire Downloads folder not just the .tmp files as iTunes stores some extra metadata in that folder. Ensure that you cannot locate the folder by going to \Users\username\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
  4. Open iTunes
  5. Choose Store > Check for Available Downloads from the menu in iTunes.
  6. Enter you ID and Password

Let us know how this goes...

ghauca123,

You have helped me solve this issue. I have worked on it for over 20 hours and tried everything I could find on Google and in the Apple Support Communities.

I am using Comcast Cable Broadband as my ISP and a Linksys Wireless USB adapter for connection to my Motorola combination Cable Modem and Router.

On Feb. 5, 2013 I installed an update from Windows Update tool for a new driver for the Linksys Wireless USB adapter. This is about the time I noticed the errors with iTunes.

After reading your suggestion above I did a roll back on the driver and immediately everything began working correctly all apps updated properly and a number of issues with facebook web pages began working correctly again.

Thanks so much for the suggestion... I had even removed and re-installed iTunes 4 times, nothing would work. From a company like Cisco you would expect better software than this... I'm very disappointed with their product and will not be purchasing them in the future...

Again, many thanks,

ThaJeweler
