Will i loss all my files when i reinstall mac os x

When i start my macbook air, a question mark is flashing...can't do anything. If i reinstall the mac os x, will i loss all my files?

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

You should try to start your MacBook with the original DVD that shipped with your MacBook then run disk utility on your hard drive to verify/repair your hard drive. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1782. If you need to reinstall Mac OS X you will not loose your data, but make a backup just incase, take a look at this link, https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3531813
