Aperture serial number problem when migrating to new iMac

I recently purchased a new iMac and got the Apple store to transfer all my data/applications from my old iMac to my new iMac. When I start Aperture it asks for the serial number. When I type in the Apertuare 3 upgrade serial number it asks for the original serial number, so I type in my original Aperture 2 serial number and it says it is not a valid serial number. Please help

Have you checked, if there are characters in the printed serial numbers, that can be easily confused, like 1 and I, or O and 0? See this support article:
