LDAP with simple authentication not work, no authentication fine

Hi All,

I've got 10.8 server running on a mac mini, and I'm looking to allow users to link their personal macs to the open directory via LDAP so that they can search the contact database.

On the client side (non-binded), in both 10.7 and 10.8, I want to use the Address Book/Contacts app to view the LDAP. When the ldap server is setup in the contacts app, all works fine as long as "authentication" is set to "none". However, I want users to have to authenticate with their open directory user and password. If I have then choose "simple" for "authentication" and input their user and password, the LDAP search will not work.

Is there a setting somewhere on the server side that I'm missing?

FYI, SSL is enabled on both client and server side.

Thanks!

MAC MINI SERVER (LATE 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), ios 6.0.1
