Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

Try and turn off iPad/iPod and proceed to step 3 of Recovery Mode.
Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.
My sons did that too. It kept telling me to connect to iTunes, but then it wouldn't let me because I couldn't put in password. It was totally frozen. I went to my Find IPhone and wiped his iPod. It completely restored it. Just had to download apps again. Just glad I finally got it unlocked!
I forgot my pass code for my Ipod and disabled it as to where the Ipod reads "Ipod disabled,connect to Itunes". but when i connect to itunes, itunes puts the same message up. we could not connect to your ipod because it has a passcode.but i cant enter one
