Recommended specs for Adobe Photoshop CS6 extended?

Hi everyone,

I am looking to hire a web & graphic designer at my office. I am planning buy a new imac or mac pro which can allow my designer to design as follows:-

- web design -> html

- brochures

- banners

- buntings and other graphics related tasks

I don't need a super computer but something that is good enough to run Adobe Photoshop CS6 extended (with minimal lags) and Adobe Illustrator.

Could I use iMac or do I really have to use mac pro for this one?

Is the specs below sufficient?

  • One 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor
  • 8GB (4X2GB)
  • 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive
  • Two ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB
  • One 18x SuperDrive
  • Apple LED Cinema Display (27" flat panel) - could I buy a samsung monitor instead?

Any help? Thanks.

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7)

$1800 for that 2.8 4 core, $620 for the 3.33 6 core plus owc 4x8GB RAM (there is 48GB RAM option for work with lots of large files), and then do the storage stuff = "sweet spot" and performance is excellent. upgrade the gpu later too if when you want. andno worry about heat and cooling, unlike the imac and laptops.

more than one gpu, no thunderbolt, upgrade options for everything.

thanks for replying back. just to confirm my understanding.

so basically below is your recommended specs?

  • One 3.33GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon processor
  • 32GB (4x8GB)
  • 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive
  • ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB
  • One 18x SuperDrive
  • Apple Magic Mouse
  • Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (Int'l English) & User’s Guide (English)

Is that what you meant?

I assume I can always add more hard disk and 2nd ATI card at later stage right? Depending on the budget.

how about mac pro with samsung hdmi ledtv monitors? can it work or I have to stick to apple led display?

any help? thanks.

I did not suggest nor would I recommend the 5870 unless it matters. Taht $200 could buy a nice SSD. Or the cost of GTX 570 or 670.

you only have two 6-pin aux power connectors for gpus which the 5870 would need to use. 5770 uses one, GTX 6xx would use two (and one of the things to look for when choosing).

do anything you want with monitors though I am sure you want somethingn else besides the HDMI TV. No you can use anything, well, anything but not an Apple Thunderbolt display which really are proprietary and don'[ work with any standard GPUs.
