Increase audio level without Re-render?

Hi , I have an older .mov video and I need to increase the audio level, leaving the video untouched.

Q: Is it possible to raise the audio level without having to re-render the video image? I am concerned about losing any quality in the image.

I have FCPx, Motion, and Compressor 4. Will any of these do this, and if so, what settings should I use?

many thanks,

Geoff

Do you have Quicktime 7 pro?

Here is a way to achieve what you want using QT7 Pro and MPEG Streamclip (free software) in less than one minute...

Open the movie in MPEG Streamclip. Choose File->Export Audio... Click on the "Adjustments" button and raise the volume. Export to AIFF.

Now open the movie and the new audio in QT7 Pro. Hit Cmd-J to see the tracks of the movie and delete the audio track. Select the whole aiff audio and Copy. Now select the whole video, and go to Edit->Add to Selection and Scale.

You can play it to see that the audio is there, is in sync, and louder than before.

Save as... the file - make sure it is set to save as a self-contained movie and use a different name not to override the old, just in case - and there you are.
