Exchange ActiveSync server for MDM

I have implemented a prototype like MDM for iOS devices, which works fine. But when I was doing some analysis, I found that we can use Exchange ActiveSync server to implement MDM (limited features). I have been searching for more information but I am bot able to get good document for this. I would like to know what has to be implemented in the client side. Can we use the same default mail client(Microsoft Exchange) which is present in the iOS devices ?

OR we have to implement our own mail client to achieve mdm functionality?

The ActiveSync client built into iOS natively supports a number of Exchange ActiveSync policies and features. Examples: require device encryption, disable camera, require password complexity, remote wipe, etc. This chart shows what policies and features are supported as of iOS 5.

So you are developing your own mail client with support for ActiveSync servers? Start with this MSDN document.

I recommend a thorough legal review to determine whether you are required to acquire an ActiveSync protocol license from Microsoft.
