I have been having all sorts of problems with Photos, and it doesn't help that I never have been able to figure out how the FCPX hierarchy works Library contains Events contain Projects. I never see anything called an event, maybe it is just a specific kind of library eh?

Anyway, somehow my project got separated from the library it belonged to, and I found it as you outlined. I just hope it does not disappear again as I am about to start another project using the same library - which I am updating with some additional media.

No need to comment unless there is some general anxiety over finding things in the libraries structure - should be so simple but it is not simple to me when the sometimes projects don't leap out when you disclose library contents.

This thread is very old and from a version that was substantially different from the current one. I suppose you are not running some 10.0.* version, are you?

I suggest you start a new thread and explicitly say what version of FCP X and OS you are running. Since 10.1 FCP X uses libraries that are saved to any folder you like and that are containers for your events and projects. So tell us what you were doing and where you were expecting to find something and not finding it.

What version of FCP X are you using?

As I wrote before, this is a very old thread. Since 10.1, FCP X uses libraries. Libraries can be opened and closed.

You can do File->Open->Library->Other... and locate the library.

You may also locate it in the Finder (by default they are in your Movies folder, but can be anywhere), and double-click to open, like any other document.

Were they located in your system drive? Or an external?

Does FCP X start, but you can't see your projects there? (This is how I understood your problem; if not, please clarify).

Projects reside in a folder name "Final Cut Projects".

In the internal drive, this folder is inside your Movies folder.

In an external, this folder is at root of the drive.

Don't move anything just yet. Locate the folder in the Finder and see if contains folders name after each one of your projects inside.

If they are, then FCP X should see them. Try clearing FCPX preferences - use Preference Manager, from Digital Rebellion (a free download). Preference corruption is the cause of many problems.

If the project folders seem to be missing in the Finder, then you may need to repair your hard drive.

If it is the internal drive, you'll need to boot from a different drive (you can use the recovery partition for that).

Use Disk Utility to Repair Disk.
