Ipod touch Not Syncing

I updated to IOS6.1.2 yesterday. After it was done, and going through several prompted questions, I think I selected "new Ipod" at some point and lost all my music, photos, and apps. When I attempt to sync with my computer, I get an error message stating that the "Itunes could not connect to this Ipod: an unknown error has occurred". So I can see my newly updated Itunes library on my computer, and I can tell my Ipod is updated, I just can't sync between the two. Any ideas??
