Where in iTunes would I find the serial number for a stolen computer?

The answer by turingtest in the above thread explains the limitations of iTunes registration of serial numbers. If your computer has been stolen there appears no way to find it through iTunes.

So if I failed to register my nano and it is lost I cannot retrieve my serial number in iTunes?

I had to have it to set up iTunes so how can I find serial number if packaging was lost and nano is lost?
