Squire doesn't sound

Hello

I just bought an Squire Fender USB Guitar. When I load the Garageband and plug the guitar (via the USB provided cable), can't hear the guitar on the Mac. Then I put ad ear phones on the guitar, and I can hear sound, but I am unable to record anything...

I'm missing some step?

GarageBand (Mac) '11, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

Did you select the select the guitar in Garageband preferences?

Using a Guitar track?

Select the input channel and turn monitoring on in the track info window?

When i start a recording, it records the guitar and shows a waveform in the track.

As I said, I can hear the sounds through the guitar headphone, but the iMac speakers are dead (muted when i plug the guitar).

Could be this the "normal" way to work when the squier usb guitar? I was expecting that my Guitar + Mac works as a normal guitar + amplifier combo...

Exactly! The order was very very important:

When connecting the Squier Strat USB Guitar to your Mac:

  1. Connect the mini USB connector end to your guitar first.
  2. Then connect the standard USB-A connector to your Mac.
  3. Once the guitar is connected to your Mac, launch GarageBand.
  4. In GarageBand, go to the Preferences in the GarageBand menu.
    • There select Audio/MIDI and select the USB Guitar as your Audio Input
    • Select either the USB Guitar or the Built-In Audio as your Audio Output.
    • Close the Preferences window.
  5. In the arrange window, click on the Monitoring button as shown below to turn on Input monitoring for your Strat USB guitar.

Thank you very much isteveus and mdee for your help!
