I am getting this error when submitting through iTunes Producer: *** -[__NSCFString substringToIndex:]: Range or index out of bounds

I'm having the same problem. There are issues in the rights area regarding this. I downloaded a new version of 2.9 and it didn't help. Support said we aren't the only ones. I wasn't having this problem until 2.9. It's strange, I like iBooks Author but iTunes Producer just doesn't even seem like an Apple product.

I am trying to publish a "free" book for the first time and I ran into the same problem with iTunes Producer. I hope someone can provide an answer, because it is frustrating after spending all the time creating the book to get to this point and run into this error message.

I am sadly running into the same error. The only way around it that I've found is to do the territories one at a time. But having to do that for 51 stores is a bit tedious. If someone finds a sollution, please post it. THANKS!!!!

I have downloaded 2.9 and it still gives me the same error... did yours work by now? If yes, PLEASE tell me how you fixed it!

I fixed my issue by re-downloading 2.9 and essentially re-saving my username and password. Not changing them, just reentering them where asked. You are in effect rebooting the program and then it gets hooked up right.

It worked now...I just closed down producer for 5 min and when I opened it again, the log in worked fine 🙂 However, I still cannot publish my book, as it gives me all these problem reports 😟

Some problem reports are about re-entering information that you probably assumed it saved, but one to watch out for, and sorry, I can't remember what it says, is simply solved by hitting command save. My experience with problem reports is that they are annoying but ultimately fixable.

It always says:

1. Apple's web service operation was not successful

2. ERROR ITMS-3000: "Line 7 column 54: character content of element "publication_type" invalid; must be equal to "Book", "Textbook", "book" or "textbook" at XPath /package/book/metadata/publication_type"

3. Unable to authenticate the package: 10000317086.itmsp

I have no clue what this means and how to solve it

On the first page of producer, where it asks for the title and the ISBN #, there is a spot for "Book Type", is "book" selected? Ignore message 1 and 3, they will resolve if you fix #2.

First of all, thanks for your help! I selected book for "Book Type" and it seems to have worked (it said your book is now available in all iBookstores). However, I can't find my book in the iBookstore :/

I went back in and found I couldn't choose Mass Market. I entered each Territory separately, and I got farther. Not all the way, mind you, but farther. This is my second book, and the first one was like this too.....

Sometimes Mass Market works and sometimes it doesn't, I believe voodoo might help in that regard. Making sure that all the spots are filled in correctly and not choosing anything on an individual basis first seems to help. That and waving a chicken over your keyboard.

Christopher, is it up there now? It sometimes takes a few hours for all the stars to align between the various systems at work. We would have thought all this to be a miracle about 15 years ago but now it would be nice if it were instanteous, for sure.

Where so you resave you user name and password? In what program....having the same problem
