Mar 14, 2013 7:18 PM in response to mgsoneby Ben Rigsby,Try restarting in Safe Mode. Hold down the shift key on restart until you see a progress bar. After the restart, restart again like normal. Log in to your account, which will be a bit slower than normal this time. Many files are rebuilt. This may improve performance and clear up the issue.

Mar 14, 2013 8:20 PM in response to mgsoneby vea1083,I would suggest the following…
1. Repair your hard drive permissions in disk utility.
2. Download the OS X 10.8.3 Combo installer from Apple. See the link below.
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1640
3. See if animations return to normal. Reason why I recommend the Combo update is because it updates all the OS X pertinent files in your Mac and as a result of this, it may fix some underlying issues. This is one of the reasons I always tell fellow Mac users to update their Macs using the Combo update rather than the Mac App Store Software Update version, because the latter tailors the update to your Mac and only downloads the files that need to be updated rather than applying the complete patch regardless of your system.
Hope this helps!

Thank you but that didnt work either :-(
Two additional suggestions...
- Try a PRAM and NVRAM Reset
- Try an SMC Reset
See if those solutions work. Try them one by one.

Mar 15, 2013 1:55 PM in response to mgsoneby Eric Root,Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work.
