Font question

After I've downloaded fonts to my desktop and then installed them in Font Book, do I need to save the original font files somewhere or can I just put them in the Trash?

Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

You can delete them. Font Book makes a copy.

Ah, thank you, Linc. So it basically works the same as iTunes which makes its own copies of music tracks, etc. Now I will feel better about cleaning up a lot of space on both my internal and external drives without worrying.
