Q: MacBook Pro 13'' (mid 2010) Windows 8 support

Hi guys, can someone explain why this MBP model lacks Windows 8 compability?

I waited good amount of time for the W8 drivers to be released, and now I found the table of supported macs by windows 8 here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634 (So that means 10.8.3 with new 5.0.2 bootcamp does nothing for me in terms of W8 compability?)

If someone gets windows 8 working on this MBP, please post your result here. Thanks a lot!

Correct. I have done all of that. I have Boot Camp 5.0.3 installed and everything works perfectly except for the freeze crashes. I have already done that action in CMD and several other "fixes" that didn't do anything. I am just seeing if the community has any other post install pointers that I could use. I have my partition set up as an NDFS type if that makes a difference.

Try making the partition as MS-DOS(FAT). I'm pretty sure there will be a bit of difference, because I have my Bootcamp partition as MS-DOS, and it's working perfectly fine.

    It seems you are right.

Currently, I'm downloading a new driver for GeoForce ... There is a utitliy called NVIDIA GeoForce Experience (this utitlity will be available when you istall the driver).

Run it to update your driver .. I still do not know it its gonna be fixed lets see.1.png

I recommend you fresh install of windows 8.1.

Then try to install bootcamp-4 drivers in compatibility mode (win 7)

Then try to work some time and disable windows updates.

Then, if it will works ok, try to install latest updates of windows.

At least there's chance you will get working system (even without updates).

Here is my solution to install Windows 8 on Mac Book Pro 13 mid 2010 (check several times):

    1. So to fix the crash use this: (right after installation)

    1. Run CMD as ADMINISTRATOR:

    2. Type: bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes

    3. Restart ;-)"

    2. Driver installation

    1. Download the BootCamp 5 zip-file and extract, download from here http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL1638/en_US/BootCamp5.0.5033.zip

    2. Start a command prompt as administrator, and navigate to the following folder inside the extracted files \BootCamp5.0.5033\BootCamp\Drivers\Apple\

    3. Type msiexec /i BootCamp.msi, hit enter, and the installer should start just fine

I have done that… of course I still have crashes… I see one video on youtube, the user is using windows 8.1 in the macbook pro 13" mid 2010 without doing the Disabledynamictick trick and he says that he has never have any crashes… maybe is a problem of many but not all macbooks of this particular model

I followed your instructions and installed "Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5621" on my mid-2010 13" MacBook Pro (Macbook7,1) from CMD as an administrator. I already had Win 8.1 running via Bootcamp 4, but with issues - Unable to launch Bootcamp Control Panel, No two-finger scrolling on Trackpad, Fn keys not working etc. With Boot Camp 5.1.5621 I seem to have everything working on Win 8.1 for the first time ever!
