My Epson Printer fails in 10.8.3

If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

• Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

• In the Finder, select Go > Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

• Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

Select the most recent panic log under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select

View > Show Log List

from the menu bar. Post the entire contents of the panic report — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

I had the same problem last night and spent over an hour with two Apple reps. They could not help me at all! They have a big problem on their hands now! What a mess. I'm sorry I updated to 10.8.3!

I have the same issue with my Epson 7800 firewire. Worked fine on 10.8.2. I can't even load the printer in system preferences.

I have an epson r2400 printer. I installed 10.8.3 and now when I just plug in the printer to my firewire port the computer restarts. How can I go back to 10.8.2 where I had no problems? I do not use Timemachine.

I cannot believe Apple did this to me.

Appearantly a lot of folks are having issues with Epson firewire printers. Until this is resolved use usb.

So now I have 2 workarounds for this problem:

1. I boot off an external hard drive with OS 10.6 installed and use the firewire cable for the epson r2400.

2. I boot off my internal drive with OS 10.8.3 installed and use the USB cable for the epson r2400 printer.

Both approaches work.

I figure Apple owes me for about 4 hours of lost work.

Yep, same here with firewire to Epson 2200 and 7800. USB seems to work fine on the 2200, but I need the firewire choice.

Come on Apple please fix this FAST!!!!!, there are a ton of pro photographers I know that use Epson and Firewire....

OS X 10.8.3 is supposed to keep our Mac's safe! But, actually Apple has infected them! That is until they decide how to correct the problem!

On the phone today with Senior Apple Tech guys for ovber an hour. I have a case number. They said they hope to have something by Saturday.

I will keep this forum posted if and when I get anything.

In the meantime USB is working just fine.

BTW, spoke with 2 Epson techs and they both said basically talk to Apple, and as far as they knew Apple wasn't supporting Fireire any longer.

It is true that the new machines do not have FW ports. Never the less, the printers were all fine on 10.8.2 and FW so obviously there was a slipup somewhere.

I have had Macs since day one. I consult quite a few photographers and architects on their computers.

In the last several years there have been very few problems, and none that I recall that brought down the whole system.

The old days, yes, but this really startled me. To say nothing of the promised print job I was starting!

Keep the faith that Apple will fix this, and quickly!

MacPro tower and Mac mini sold today do indeed have FW ports, I stand corrected as pointed out to me by another forum member.
