Is there a solution for the Gmail exchange password problem?

I just bought an Iphone 5 to replace my 3 GS, but have a problem with Gmail's exchange server.

it keeps saying that the password is not correct, and asks me to re-enter it.

This problem has been discussed on the forums before, but I was not able to find a solution.

Tried working the Captcha unlock, but this did not work.

Tried configuring it as name@gmail.com and name@googlemail.com, but no luck there either.

Deleted the exchange account several times, but still the same problem.

Created a regular gmail account, and this is working fine, but can then receive my mails only every 15 minutes.

The exchange account works without problems both on my ipad and on my old 3GS.

Has anybody been able to solve this?

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.2

Part of contacts sync is resolved by following this instructions.

You can no longer configure gmail as an Exchange account. Google has terminated support for it. Existing setups will continue to work (though there have been issues reported here and in other forums), but you can no longer set it up that way on any iOS device. If you need push notification for your gmail, you'll have to resort to the gmail app, mailbox, or another 3rd party gmail client.
