Software Update Mountain Lion not working
Software Update no longer finds updates for OS or iTunes - any ideas on how to get this reset? Spotlight is on and it does find updates for third party apps.

Do you have the latest updates? It can't find what doesn't exist.
Spotlight doesn't find 3rd party updates. The 3rd party apps most likey find their own updates.
Maybe Seahawk69 means it won't even report availability of obvious updates. That's the case for me. I used a 10.8.2 installer (installer version 1.3.18) that I downloaded from the Mac App Store to install to a clean partition where I intended to perform various software tests, and the Mac App Store update area simply displays "No Updates Available". Is that because 10.8.3 is active on another partion? That hasn't been the case before when I've followed that procedure.

Try unmounting (ejecting) the other partition before runnig Software Update.
I rebooted to the 10.8.2 partition, unmounted the 10.8.3 volume, then launched Software Update from the Apple menu. Same results as before.
Then download and run the Combo installer: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1640
Well, sure, I've got it, it's just that I have questions like "Is the software update function broken just for me, or for everybody?", and "If it's just broken for me, what broke it?", and "If it's broken for everybody, is it a known issue, or should I file a bug report?"
It's definitely not broken for everybody. As to why it's not working for you, I've got no ideas.
I guess one pertinent question might be "Is it broken for other people who used the Mountain Lion 10.8.2 installer version 1.3.18 to install Mountiain Lion onto a new blank partition on a system where 10.8.3 was already running?"

That doesn't make sense. If it was a new blank partition, how could it be running 10.8.3.
The new blank partition is on a system (a 2012 iMac) where 10.8.3 was already running. It happens to be on the internal drive, although I wouldn't expect the precise path of the drive volume to matter much because a Mac is bootable from most any hard drive connected as long as the drivers to access the device are present in firmware.
If you re-downlaod ML, it will be a 10.8.3 installer, version 1.3.22. Make a copy of it somewhere besides the Application folder for future use.
Reindexing Spotlight appeared to make the updates appear.
Excellent.
Hopefully, the O.P. will have the same results and mark the answer.
