Scanning functionality disappeared partly

Yesterday I up-graded to 10.8.3. which caused several problems so that I restored back to a prior taken SuperDuper 10.8.2 backup.

So far so good but now ( under 10.8.2 ) I have the problem that my scanner ( EPSON Perfection 1240U ) doesn't work as before

the restore.

Image capture stll recognizes the scanner but scan's can only be done in BW. No colour anymore.

The previously perfectly working PDF option to merge already at the point of scanning several docs into one doesn't work either.

I went to the EPSON website and tried to download the latest driver. They are only pointing you to the "Update Software" option

of OSX 10.8.2 . which when run doesn't give anything in regards of scanning software up-dates.

Somebody an idea ?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
