Replace broken iPhone 4s

Yesterday while in a LifeProof case my iPhone 4s front screen shattered. I have been told that since it was in the LifeProof case that Apple with replace it for free. Is this true? Or what can I do to get it replaced?

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1.1

In a sense yes it is cheaper when it comes to needing a new phone. But the plan is $99 and I still have to pay for a new phone?? The case is only $80 I don't know...it is all ******** if you ask me that Apple would let someone make products for their iPods iPhones and iPads and not stand behind that product to replace devices if they are faulty. Or that LifeProof wouldn't stand behind their products enough to replace a phone or other device if damaged in a way that they are saying the phone is protected against. Such as water damage or a cracked screen.

Apple doesn't "let' someone make a case for their devices, they do not have that authority so why should Apple be liable if someone else's product does not work? Since they have no input on how the case is made why would they be liable if it doesn't work?

I have no idea what the warranty is on Lifeproof cases, read yours and see what coverage they provide. Then avail yourself of whatever is available through them.

I buy the AppleCare plan anyway to extend coverage of manufacturing defects to 2 years so for me it is only $49 for the replacement. I don't have my iPhone 5 in a case, haven't found one yet that I like.

I just opened my Life Proof Case because a portion of the plastic cornor had lifted in the front. To my UTTER SHOCK.....the whole back of my phone is in pieces. I'm pretty bummed to read that Life Proof doesn't stand behind the claims they make about their case. Yes, my phone has dropped several times on the cement, but I never doubted it was protected since I had the Life Proof Case. Boy, was I wrong!!!! I do carry insurance on my phone, but am still upset that, unless I chose not to fix it, I'm out money! I've always been happy with my case, until now.

Any suggestions on what case really will protect the phone, or is that just impossible?
