How do I deal with a spinning rainbow that precedes and delays the appearance of the arrow

For the past sevral weeks, my navigating in the Internet has been slowed down by the appearance of a spinning rainbow. I eventually disappears and the arrow returns permitting me to proceed in my search.

Can this rainbow be eliinated? Or can the process at least be speeded up?

Sorry for not being more clear, RAM=Random Access Memory. So you've got 2gb of ram. That's the BARE minimum that 10.7.5 Lion requires to run smoothly! I'm not sure exactly which MacBook you have but I'm sure you can run at least 6gb or ram. More than likely low memory(ram) is your problem. Look at that link about activity monitor and report back with the number listed as page outs. Run activity monitor while you browse normally and I'll bet you've got a high number f page outs. Activity Monitor is located in your Applications/Utilities folder.

To get an accurate reading with Activity Monitor you need to use your computer for at least a few hours doing the things you normally do, is that what you did when you saw 369mb of pageouts?

If all of your problems are when you're browsing you should try clearing all of your history, cookies and cache. You might also try another Browser, Firefix is good. http://appletoolbox.com/2011/10/make-safari-faster-clear-safari’s-cache-cookies- and-history/

I did a search and pretty much everyone thinks that 2gb of ram isn't enough for Lion. Take a look T the first post in this thread, it has several good tips on speeding up your Mac https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3238726?start=0&tstart=0

Mike,

I took the 369MB pageout reading after about 90 minutes of computer activity. Is 369 acceptable?

What are the parameters involved? What range or number of pageouts calls for an increase in RAM .

I have already begun to attempt to keep my history clean as I browse and I think this has lessened the apprearance of the spinning rainbow.

I will do more homework and look at the tips in the first thread also.

Again many thanks, Kevin

Mike, Took break for federal tax return! Went to OWC and realized that I would have to have the memory upgrade cartridge mailed to me and that the installation requires opening up computer. Aborted process and will have to wait for next visit to the States to have the Apple people do the upgrade.

Meanwhile, my machine is doing better with all of the tips that I have picked up in the process.

Many thanks for your patience and advice which has been right on.
