Why Java for OS X (SE 6 to 1.6.0_43)?

Why Java for OS X (SE 6 to 1.6.0_43)?

I already have Version 7 Update 17 (1.7.0_17-b02), the version that Oracle's site recommends - yet Software Update keeps warning me that I need to install SE version 1.6.0_43.

Can Software update not tell that there is a newer version installed? Whats the deal?

And yes, it still shows up after updating to OSX 10.8.3

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), 750GB HD, 8GB Ram

Open App Store and wait until the update is presented to you. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the More link and select Ignore Update from the context menu.

Thanks for helping to at least not have to see it.

But the question remains - why does it want me to update when I have a NEWER version installed?

Software Update does not recognize the Oracle software as being installed.
