In Date & time prefs, I checked the "set time zone automatically using current location." Therefore, when I drive from one time zone to another, I expect the machine's time zone to change. It doesn't. To get it to change, I have to enter Date & Time preferences. Then it changes by itself. What gives? I have repaired permissions. Thank you

I am connected. Is this what you mean by location services?
Not sure if it is needed for TZ info but in System Preferences->Security & Privacy is a setting for turning on Location services. Under the Pricacy tab.
Might want to check that out.

It looks a little different from your but it is enabled, is it not?

I believe what's going on is that your computer has to connect to the internet in order to pulse a clock to say "Hmmm, what time is it?"
If you're just driving along (presumably with a hotspot in your car), your computer has no special reason to connect to the internet, so it saves power and CPU and does not.
This is just an educated guess. I might be wrong.
