Websites Aliases (to ~/Dropbox for example :-)

Hi --

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious (and quite possibly a discussion thread that has already sorted this), but I'm having trouble with the Websites Aliases setting.

I want to serve files from my Dropbox directory (my ghetto substitute for source control).

First, I set up my /etc/apache2/users/<user>.conf and enabled httpd-userdir.conf to get my ~/Sites/ directory working over http. I verified that by browsing to localhost/~<user> to find the default website. Beautiful.

Then, in Server's Websites settings, I edited the Server Website Aliases and toggled Websites off and on:

Path: /~<user>/dropbox

Folder: /Users/<user>/Dropbox

But when I browse to localhost/~<user>/dropbox/, I get a 404.

Same thing if I try to browse to the file index.html in that directory.

Is this a group permissions problem, perhaps? What's best practice for handling Dropbox directory's group and mods?

MacBook Pro, OS X Server, 10.8
