Itunes library GONE.

Hello all!

So all of a sudden, I restart my computer and open itunes and the library is gone. The files are still located in the correct folder, but the library is gone. Poof.

So, I tried the old method of recovering corrupt library files. No go.

So then, I manually added about 4 gigs of songs back into Itunes. I thought everything was great...

UNTIL...

I restarted my computer again.

LIBRARY IS NOW GONE AGAIN!

Is this a new bug in the newest update of Itunes?

I really think it is. This is the only time I have ever had this happen!

Hi there. I have this same "naming" problem. I've unchecked the hide file extensions option under explorer folder options as suggested but this has not resolved the problem.

I have lots of .tmp files (Temp File 1- 24.tmp, iT 1-111.tmp!) - windows warns that renaming the files may make them unstable. I create the new iTunes Library.itl anyway and then when loading iTunes, iTunes creates an iTunes Library(Damaged).itl from my .tmp file and I am left with a blank library.

Any help much appreicated, I'm lost without my playlists for my 30000 tracks!

Thanks.

This happened to me this morning. Thought it was ITunes having a very unfunny April Fools joke! Basically, I quit Itunes with everything apparently OK - when I restarted it a few minutes later it came up with the "Welcome to Itunes - to get started, go to the Itunes store, or add files" screen. Library of over 11,000 songs gone, except for some purchases shown In The Cloud (which I never use).

I manually added the "Itunes" folder into the library and after much thrashing around it seems to have got most things back, but my playlists are gone. I am running the latest version of Itunes on Windows 7 64 bit, I am also running then latest version of AVG.

Hopefully Apple will fix it, but seeing as they still haven't fixed the Home Sharing bugs or the search shared library crash bugs in IOS 6 after 6 months I'm doubtful. I'll add that I hate Itunes 11...after frightening me like this I hate it with a vengeance now!

hello there steve (turingtest2)! i too am a victim of this possible AVG/itunes battle of the titans. i have taken your advice with this issue, but am unfortunately not having the same luck as others. i have 3 recent .tmp files all from march 30th, but whenever i try to rename any of them to Itunes Library.itl, it gives me the error message below whenever i try to open up itunes afterwards:User uploaded file

i am not having any luck with this at all. i'm afraid to connect any of my apple devices to my computer now, because the last tie i synced any of them was before all this happened this weekend, right after the AVG 2013 update...coincidentally.

any further help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I am having the same problem with a customer. Its odd because I have not tried the fix yet, I see the customer Thursday.

Himself, me, and a few other computers I have are all running windows 7, all have avg free, all have itunes and over 4000+ songs, some more some less.

Only one is having the library erases, but stays on the HDD. I am going to try the AVG exception, and the .tmp fix. Hoping one of them will work. I am just confused because only 1 out of 6 does this?

I will update in 2 days of what works if i get it working.

I've had exactly the same problem as everyone else. I run AVG free as well so have added the iTunes folder to the exceptions list. I also managed to upload all my playlists from my iPad so at least I haven't totally lost those. Having said that, it's entirely possible this will all reset when i restart.

Using the route suggested above, i've also used an old iTunes library file to get the data back. Unfortunately the latest version I had was from December 2012 meaning i've lost a huge amount of play data etc.

Is there anyway I can transfer play data from my iPad? I have already made a back up of the data on the iPad but not sure if it's possible to transfer this to the iTunes library.

Thanks!
