cannot delete trash on imac...

The message i get when i empty trash is : 'The operation cannot be completed because you dont have permission to access some of the items'

Secure empty trash in finder also does not work..Neither does holding dowm the option key while deleting trash or restarting the computer. or starting in safe mode, nor rm-rf in terminal.. tried every option they have suggested in threads.
