I have a Macbook Pro and an iPad. I am hoping to use these two products to help keep all my college work in one place. The thing is that some classes I would want to type on microsoft word on the macbook but then I have classes like math classes where I type some things and then do math problems where I want to draw. Is there an app where I can use the macbook and ipad at the same time for one set of notes being taken?

According to your question, you want to share the note app between iPad and Macbook. My experience is so easy to operate. The step is following:
1.Launch note app and open the note on iPad and Mac which you want to sync.
2.Choose the "Share" option on the top side.
3.Just select one way to share your notes on iPad and Macbook.
