importing footage: archive then add to events? how does fcpx want me to do this?

I've been using FCPX for a year now and love it. However I'm confused on how it wants to hold my footage. Arching to me, is keeping footage and the end project. However when I go to import, I'm not sure if I create an archive for my footage or just let it go to an events folder. What does FCPX want me to do. I was dumping it into an archive and trying to figure out how to through more into the same archive, but it just wasn't straight forward. How does FCPX want me to manage this footage?
