Icon Composer and OS X 10.8.3

Simply it does not work; It crashes while dragging pngs to 128*128 squares or higher.

Works with 32 * 32 icons; Mac OS 8.3 Mountain Lion 😀

MacBook Pro 17", PowerBook G4 17", OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

Application corruption problems: You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Hold down the option key while using the Finder "Go To Folder" command. Enter ~/Library. Delete the .plist(s) for the application.

If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.

You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

I read that Apple isn't supporting Icon Composer anymore due to it not supporting Retina displays.

There is a link, at the bottom, to download the application again. When I tried it the file went in my trash, not to my desktop.

Here is a link to Xcode 4, which I think Icon Composer is linked to.

🙂

It's an applescript app, and here's his code:

-----8<-----

on open aDroppedFolders

repeat with i from 1 to the count of aDroppedFolders

set vAMacFolder to item i of aDroppedFolders

set vAPOSIXFolder to POSIX path of vAMacFolder

do shell script "iconutil -c icns " & quoted form of vAPOSIXFolder

end repeat -- with i from 1 to the count of aDroppedFolders

end open

-----8<-----

It's GPL'd; hope this could help someone.

Not yet, but in the meantime I wrote another tool to help to prepare .PNG for IconCreator: PNG Preparator 0.1

http://www.roam.it/soft/pp/

You can now create your icons in PNG files with these sizes:

  • 16 * 16
    pixel
  • 32 * 32
    pixel
  • 64 * 64
    pixel
  • 128 * 128
    pixel
  • 256 * 256
    pixel
  • 512 * 512
    pixel
  • 1024 * 1024
    pixel

save them as .PNG respectively as

  • 16.png
  • 32.png
  • 64.png
  • 128.png
  • 256.png
  • 512.png
  • 1024.png

create a folder with a name of your choice, eg. "abcd".

move the .PNG files in "abcd" folder, open with PNG Preparator and you'll obtain an inconset, a folder named "abcd.iconset", containing all you need to create your icon.

Then open "abcd.iconset" with IconCreator:

http://www.roam.it/soft/ic/

and you'll have "abcd.icns", your icon file.

That's all.

Shortlink to PP and IC are:
