Q: I have extended my AirPort Extreme network using a Airport Express base station as described above (HT4259), but the amber light is flashing on the Airport Express. I am not sure if the network is actually extended. Shouldn't the light be a steady green?

The light on the Express should be green.

Open AirPort Utility, select the AirPort Express and click Manual Setup

Click directly on the word Status

What is the message that you see there?

The AirPort Express does not appear as an option in either AirPort Utility or in the drop down menu for networks. It was last present in the Airport utility  window when I set up the extended network.

I have solved the problem with a hard reset of both the AirPort Extreme and the AirPort Express base station. Once the AirPort Express appeared alonside the AirPort Extreme in the AirPort Utility chooser, I was able to follow the final steps on (HT4259) to successfully setup the AirPort Express to extend my wireless home network (LAN). Nice stong signal strength thorughout the house. Thanks for yoru help Bob.
