Where is the 'dash' on the iPad keypad?
I need to use a dash on an email address and I cannot find it on the keypad
I need to use a dash on an email address and I cannot find it on the keypad
Haven't read(red) every comment however - I've been using a hyphen as a dash in my notes and stuff, basically when the rules of grammar require the usage of a dash and it's become irritating because I use the dash (which if you don't know is much longer than a hyphen but looks somewhat similar) doesn't seem to be in the iPhone 5s's touchscreen keyboard and there's no reason why such an expensive product would leave out what's so "sine qua non" in written English. So I wanted to know if I missed it or if there was a reason or if I could somehow have it added to my keyboard?
Shift to the numeric keyboard - 123 key on the bottom left.
On my UK layout keyboard it's at the bottom right of the qwerty keyboard
Note the lack of the dash symbol when the 123 key was tapped.
You will not find it in the keyboard when typing an email address in the To: field in the mail app.
Type the email address in the body of the email and then copy and paste the email address. I have customers that use dashes in thier email addresses and that is what I have to do. Then I add them to my contacts afterward.
The mail app keyboard assumes that -'s are not allowed in email addresses.
The keypad that comes up when I try to sign in to the CBS Sports website does not have the same set up(?)
Look at my post. In the US English keyboard - when you tap in the To: field - you cannot get a dash to appear on the keyboard.
I am trying to enter an email address to sign into a website, I don't know where I could copy it from
Use the notes app. Type the email address in there and then copy it and paste into wherever you need to paste it on the website. I use the notes app to enter frequently needed things that I can copy and paste.
For months I have looked for that dash and for months I have come up empty handed. Once again, I must eat my own words. Man they are starting to taste awfully bad.
I apologize profusely for the incorrect information and if you will excuse me, I am off to make an appointment with my eye doctor. 😊
Thanks once again KP, for setting me straight and for providing the correct information.
And now I really have to slither off in embarrassment, it will not be the first time that has happened, and unfortunately, I'm sure it will not be the last either ....

Thanks!
To me that is the underscore symbol not the dash i am still not seeing it this is so weird
You need to hold down the hyphen key, it will expand to reveal a variety of different dashes
Solved! Cheers for the helpful tip — I would never have thought of it.
