No Full Import

So I've been trying to import a 23 minute long video into iMovie on my MacBook Pro (Late 2011) with Mountain Lion and only the last eight minutes of the clip import. The clip works perfectly fine when I watch it but it just doesn't import. I've tried twice but with exactly the same outcome. Is there anything I can do?
