my airplay icon des not appear in iTunes or on my iPad.. appleTV is properly set up and networked.. tried all the various troubleshooting solutions.. what else can i do? mirroring does not come on!!
On your iPad, double-click the Home button to show all recent apps. Swipe to the right to reveal the playback controls. The AirPlay menu is there.

Thanks for your response... but that is exactly what i have been doing for the last few months until tonight when the airplay icon has suddenly disappeared from my iPad, as well as on the iTunes app window where it usually appears.. do you suppose my apple TV is kaput?
Before you tell me to do so, i have uplugged and plugged again the ATV as well as restarted it from the menu on TV, checked that is is networked... everything seems to be in order eexcept it will not send a signal to my ipad..
That is very odd. If you're close enough to an Apple retail store, I'd take it in to be checked out. They'll trouble shoot it for free.
