Battery stays at zero when charging.

I have had my Macbook Pro since September 2011. Lately I have been having issues with the battery. My problem is that when I have my macbook plugged in it says zero percent, and tells me to service battery. When it is unplugged it bounces all over the place from 80%-20% then back up to 91%. Can someone please tell me whether this is fixable without taking it to a store to get fixed?
