MacBook Air
Many recent Mac laptops do use the F5 and F6 keys as "light up keys". These control the key lights. On my MacBook Air, the key lights come on automatically in the dark, so that's why I see the "no entry".

Here are the current standard keyboard shortcuts:
RIght now, F5 and F6 have no meaning in OS X. When you push them, you should see a circle with a diagonal bar (no entry) sign at the bottom.

Are the short cuts you posted the same for the mac book pro?
If you use the Function (fn) key, it will work same as the normal f5 and f6 keys.
