Q: Setting Up Apple ID

I am trying to create an apple ID for my son but when I do I get this message.

"This email address is already in use or you may already have an Apple ID associated with this email address. Please try again or sign in using your existing Apple ID." this may be because he may be associated with my Apple ID - how do I get round this and create an account for him.

Each Apple ID must be associated with a unique email address. You cannot have two Apple IDs attached to a single email address or vice-versa because an Apple ID is an email address. Get your son his own email address. Make that email address his Apple ID.

Thanks Kappy, That is what I am trying to do is to set up an Apple ID on his email address. When I initially set him up I used my apple ID. But I have had nothing but trouble with Facetime and Imessage. Which is the reason I am trying to set up his Apple ID using his email address.

    But I get this message

This email address is already in use or you may already have an Apple ID associated with this email address. Please try again or sign in using your existing Apple ID.

    Hi Kappy,

Perhaps I should explain - We have 5 devices My Wife and I have Ipad and Iphone each and my son an Ipod touch. So that we could all share Itunes purchases and downloads I linked them all to my ITunes account. We each have individual email addresses.

We found it difficult to manage the Imessage and Facetime because although we entered the email addresses for Face time and Imessage I was receiving my wifes messages and it was a mess.

So how do I disassociate My wifes email address from my Apple ID

This is so complicated and I hope you can help seer me the correct direction

That sounds to me like there is an Apple ID associated with the email address.

I don't know what you've done nor how you did it. But the typical procedure is to create an Apple ID and associate it to an email address for yourself. The Apple ID and email address need not be the same but you must use a valid email address. Typically, the Apple ID will be your personal email address. That's how I have mine set up.
