USB SuperDrive

I recently purchased an apple USB SuperDrive, but after connecting the unit to my USB port, the unit is not accepting the DVD or CD! It seems the unit is off or it is not connected to my MacBook Pro. Please help!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

The superdrive works on Macs which didn't ship with an internal optical drive, is your MacBook listed see link,
