Why does it take so long to download from Apple TV?

It could be your download speed, I think the recommended minimum 2 Mbps for Standard Def, 4 Mbps for 720p and 6 Mbps for 1080p. I have 8Mbps and usually have the movie ready in a couple of minutes. Check your speeds. Also a router reboot occasionally can help.

There are many free speed tests on line, search 'what is my download speed' or similar or ask your ISP. It should also say on your contract, but that is the maximum you can get and you may actually get way less.

Interesting... I test at a download speed of 25mbps and I have been waiting for HOURS to watch a movie i rented. Its infuriating... Finally it let me begin watching... and then at the mid point it stopped to pause for addition 3 hours of load time. ***? It was not like this at all when first bought my apple tv earlier this year... with no changed to my network, all of a sudden im having to wait hours. what has Apple done to THEIR network?

Speed is only one factor.

Are you using your ISPs DNS? (go into settings - network - DNS should be set to automatic)

Interference can also cause issues (and can present itself with no changes made by the user). To verify check istumbler.net or netstumbler
