Question
MacOS 10.5.6. When I try to move a file from my HD to the desktop, I get “could not be moved because desktop cannot be modified”.
I “authenticate”, but nothing happens.

In Finder, do a Get Info on the Desktop folder in your User folder, see if it is Locked, & what rights you have.
