Q: Resolution Lowered When Waking Up in 10.8.3?

Hi!

I'm wondering if anyone has seen an issue with their Mac when it wakes up from idle/sleep in 10.8.3. For the past couple days, when I wake my Mac mini up from idle or sleep, it drops the resolution down and the only thing that resolves the issue is a reboot. However, as soon as it goes back to idle or sleep, it happens again. The only change I've made since installing 10.8.3 is pairing a Magic Trackpad to my Mac.

Any assistance would be most welcome. Thanks!

Resetting the PRAM should do the trick. Give that a try,

Just tried resetting the PRAM. After rebooting, I immediately put it to Sleep, then woke it up, and the resolution didn't change. I let it go into idle, then woke it back up, but the resolution dropped back down again.

It was originally set to 'Best for Display', but when I reset the PRAM I set it to 1280x1024. After idle it dropped down to 800x600.

Seems to be behaving now after I set it back to 1280x1024 manually. I've done a couple of idle/Sleep + wakeup cycles and screen resolution's been unchanged. Thanks!

I also have this problem after resetting PRAM. I was never a problem before, when I was using 10.6.

MacBookPro (2009) 2.53 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM connected to a VGA Flatron W2242PM screen.

This is really annoying! Every time it happens, have to sleep/wake the display several times to get it working properly.
Even with 10.8.2 this problem didn't exist! Guess have to wait to see if they are gonna solve it by 10.8.4!

It is very annoying, but in my case I can unplug the mini displayport cable form my laptop, wait 2 seconds and plug it back, and then it works.

True! That's also what I did to my Mini, but occasionally that failed, then repeated couple of times would do.

My Macbook Pro no longer wakes from sleep after updating to 10.8.3 from 10.8.2. I will try resetting my NVRAM to see if that fixes the problem.

Is there any way to downgrade from 10.8.3 back to 10.8.2?

You cannot simply downgrade from higher version to lower ones.
Guess you will have to reinstall the system with a version lower than 10.8.2 (upgrade afterwords) or just right 10.8.2 to do the trick.

Same here but different resolution.
I have a hdmi->dvi on my macmini.
Connected to a 24' 1920*1200.

When it wakes from long sleep period it gets 640*480 or something. Even if I set the display to "best for display" it gets 1920*1080 (doesnt even show full resolution in settings)

I have to log in (after wake), set to sleep again, and wake again right after "no signal, monitor going to sleep" to get full resolution back.

This problem came with 10.8.3

Resetting NVRAM (PRAM) did not help for me either.

Essentially, sometimes the Mac does not recognize the particular monitor when it wakes from sleep, but rather only recongizes that some sort of VGA Monitor is there, and goes to generic VGA Monitor Settings.

I found a workaround (but not a true fix) to this problem. It doesn't truly fix the probelm, but it makes it livable.
