How do I set up extended monitor using new iMac 2012 21.5 inch? c

I have a new 21.5 inch imac 3.1 ghz 16gb memory and want to have a extended monitor setup. I have a viewsonic vx2250-led monitor that has audio capabilities and am looking for advice with setup, setting and if audio can play out of both?
