I'M VERY UPSET! I have a 2nd generation iPod. Since everything o tried to download said I needed the newest iOs update I figured, HEY maybe if I just update my iPod when I plug it into the computer I can download it. FIRST OF ALL it took FOREVER to update. Second of all I had to restore my iPod justfor it to update so everything I had on here is gone! Including INSTAGRAM. AND NOW I CAN'T EVEN REDOWNLOAD INSTAGRAM BECAUSE I STILL DON'T HAVE THE UPDATE IT'S NEEDS!!! So basically trying to update my iPod was a waste of time because it erased my instagram and now I can't get it at all -_-

Many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier. Instagram is one.

Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.
