Removing McAfee

I have had McAfee Internet Security on my Mac for 2 years but need to remove it. I used the McAfee uninstall app but it must have left something on my hard drive. Every time I try to load a new anti-virus it tells me that McAfee enterprise software is running so it won't let me install. I cannot find any evidence of McAfee still being on my Mac and all the internet tells me is how to revome McAfee from a Windows PC.

McAfee technical support running me round in circles and don't appear to know how to solve it. Any help would be welcome.

Many here will advise you against installing any anti-virus software, but it is, of course, your choice.

If you've run the uninstaller but bits are left behind you could download the free EasyFind which is brilliant at finding all kinds of detritus:

Regarding anti-virus - you may find Thomas A Reed's Malware guide useful reading:

P.S. Whatever you do, don't install MacKeeper, based on reports on this forum and elsewhere.

Uninstall the McAfee product by following the instructions on whichever of the pages linked below is applicable:

Note that if you have already tried to uninstall the software, you may have to reinstall it in order to finish the job. If you have a different version of the product, the procedure may be different.

Back up all data before making any changes.
