safari won't open to homepage

I have a new desktop running v.10.7.5, with Safari 5.1.7

I have seen there are other discussions on this subject, but I don't know how to join them !

In Safari Preferences I have set new windows and new tabs to open with a homepage (which I have 'set to current page' next to 'homepage') but, as others have mentioned, when I launch Safari, it opens with the last page that was open from the last session.

I have also seen suggested selecting 'restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps' in the General tab of System Preferences, which does not appear in my General tab : is this because my version of Safari is 5.1.7 ?

Any help gratefully received !

You are looking for the wrong option. Open System Preferences > General, and mark "Close windows when quitting an application".
