Mar 19, 2013 6:36 AM in response to BrentC1by lllaass,You can only update/restore a 2G iPod to iOS 4.2.1.
Apple does not support going to a lesser iOS.

Mar 19, 2013 7:11 AM in response to lllaassby BrentC1,Well I read that I could update the 2.2.1 to the OS 3 first and then to the 4.2.1.
When I try to go straight to the 4.2.1 an error pops up saying I can not do that. I read that I could upgrade to the OS 3 first and then it shold allow me to go to the 4.2.1 update.
How can I go straight to OS 4.2.1 from 2.2.1?

Mar 19, 2013 2:09 PM in response to lllaassby BrentC1,Sorry it says-
The iPod "Amanda's iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1).
Then you can hi the OK button or the more information button that takes you to the link above.

Mar 19, 2013 2:27 PM in response to BrentC1by lllaass,Error 1 or -1
This may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues, and restore your device on a different known-good computer. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
The "device may need service" means a hardware problem. In that case make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Mar 20, 2013 5:48 AM in response to BrentC1by Elitegate,Why are you trying to upgrade to 3.1.3? The 4.2.1 update is a newer version. If you can't update your iOS then something is wrong with your device or iTunes. Take it to an Apple Store. (Genius Bar)

Mar 20, 2013 5:54 AM in response to Elitegateby BrentC1,I read that I have to go to 3.1.3 before it will update to the 4.2.1. That did not work either, so I will have to take it into Apple store.
