I visited my local Apple Store in London today and was inspecting the black Macbook, doesnt anyone find the fingerprint issues appauling? I touched it slightly on the outer cover and it made a really noticeable fingerprint. Then i found that the only way to remove it was to use a wet cloth, or clean it. And Apple have the front to charge more for it? They should pay people to buy it!
The black MacBook is fast and looks neat till you touch it.
After just a few minutes working on it it looks disgusting.
I find Windex and soft paper towels will clean it (until it's touched again). Really crappy surface. Very much unlike most of the Apple elegant equipment.
Sadly.
I had a Pismo that was black and it did show every fingerprint. It didn't show the minor scratches that comes with responsible daily laptop use. If it got a scratch though you're really out of luck. You couldn't buff it out. All in all though I think the black probably hold up better if surface scratches bother you.
Some people just want the black and it just boils down to that. They want the color. Of course if you're not into black that's fine too.
I say vote with your dollar (or British pound), buy what you want and realize there are advantages and disadvantages to both colors.
How were you planning on using a portable computer without touching it?
Whether it's black, white, or anything else you will leave marks over time. It's not like you're going to sell it in time for the same price you paid. You will scratch it eventually - whether its from your bag, or accidental pen marking, or whatever. It's a portable computer - you're going to want to move it around. Just accept that. It's not a big deal. Enjoy it - use it!
You could wrap it encase it in a plastic shield - but then you lose out on truly enjoying the design. Let go...
