Aperture 3.4.3 "Loupe" bug

On my new iMac running OSX 10.8.2 and Aperture 3.4.3 ... if "Use Centered Loupe" is selected, the Loupe appears, but if I try to move it, the Loupe zips to the upper left corner of the Aperture window and the entire Aperture window slides to the right, partially off screen. The Alternate Loupe works fine. Any ideas on how to restore historical Use Centered Loupe operation?

I am seeing something siilar, but only in "Full Screen Mode" and with both Loupe options "Use Centered Loupe" and "Focus on Loupe" turned on. For me usually toggling a few times between "Focus on on Loupe" and "Focus on Cursor" will make the Loupe behave, but the whole thing is highly erratic. When this happens, also moving the cursor towards the toolbar will make the whole window escape to the right.

What are your other settings? Are you seeing this also in Full Screen Mode or in Viewer/Browser mode? Are you using two displays and have your secondary viewer set to mirroring or something else? I see this with no secondary display connected. And have you assigned a separate space to Aperture in Mission Control? I am not using spaces with Aperture.

P.S. It would be worth a try to trash the Aperture Preferences, but I am reluctant to try that right now, because I do not want to have to reset the Web Preferences.

Don,

your problem with the loupe seems much more seroius than mine.

Try to find out, if the problem with the Loupe is system wide on your Mt. LIon mac or only your occurs in your current user account.

To check this, log into a different user account on the mac and check Aperture with a few test pictures. You may want to create a new account if you do not have asecond account. Don't change any standard settings; just try out the loupe in Aperture.

Does it work in the other account? If not, I'd reinstall Aperture. But if it does work, it would indicate that the settings in your main user account need fixing. Try, if removing the Aperture preferences apple.com.Aperture.plist from your user library "/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences" will help, see on how to do this.

Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics

Also remove the mirrored file in /Users/YourUserName/Library/Containers/com.apple.Aperture/Container.plist from your User Library.

The user library is hidden in Mountain Lion. To unhide it, use the Finder's "Go" menu.

  • Quit Aperture.
  • Click somewhere on your empty Desktop to bring the Finder forward, then you'll see "Go" in the Finder's main menu bar.
  • Then hold down the options key ⌥ until "library" appears in the drop down menu. Click Library to open and navigate to the "Preferences" foder. Remove /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/apple.com.Aperture.plist and
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Containers/com.apple.Aperture/Container.plist
  • After removing the files to the Desktop, log off from your User account and log on again - otherwise the changes to your library may not take.

Removing the Preferences will reset all entries you made in the Preferences oanel to their default. other presets however will stay.

I tried deleting the two plists and restarted.... but NO JOY... the Loupe operation is still bogus.

I moved my pictures my Intel Mac Pro running Lion and Aperture 3.4.3 to the new iMac running Mountain Lion 10,8,2 and Aperture 3.4.3 on a firewire circuit. Aperture immediately found the file on the new iMac and everything seemed to be working correctly... except the Loupe. I am thinking Mountain Lion is causing this issue... it is the only factor which has changed.

BTW... the Loupe is still working correctly on the old Mac Pro...
